How to change eps client machine name?
Managing multiple machines from a single, centralized interface in IT environments is critical for efficient operations. A common task administrators may need to perform is changing the machine name of a client device. This task is made easy through the central console, a feature Endpoint Security console, allowing administrators to modify client machine names without requiring direct access or visits to the individual device.
- If you have an On-premises console (EPS Intranet) then follow the below steps:
Step 1: Login to your EPS Intranet console using
Step 2: Go to the Key Detail tab under the Client Detail section.
Step 3: Search and select which systems machine name you want to change.
Step 4: Click on the Edit option available in the Host Name column give the required host name and update the settings.
Once the notification is received by the client system, the machine name will be changed.
Key details will show *NewHostName in key details until the client system restarts, once the client system is restarted then you will see the new hostname.
If you have an EPS Web console then follow the below steps:
Step 1: Login to EPS Web console
Step2: Go to the Key details tab
Step 3: Click on the Machine name that you want to change and give the New Machine name then click on the Update Changes button.
Once the notification is received by the client system, the machine name will be changed.
Key details will show *NewHostName in key details until the client system restarts, once the client system is restarted then you will see the new hostname.
Note: When client systems are part of an Active Directory (AD) domain, they are registered with the domain controller using their machine names. If you change a machine's name to one that is not recognized by the domain controller, the system may become disconnected from the Active Directory domain. This disconnection occurs because the new name does not match any existing entries in the AD, leading to authentication issues and loss of access to domain resources. To ensure continued connectivity, the new machine name must be registered with the domain controller after the change.
